About Origin Organic Farms
Raymond Wong
Founder and president
Raymond Wong, founder and president of Origin Organic Farms, believes in good taste. He’s so passionate about flavor, in fact, that he’s combined innovation and tradition to produce something very special: perfectly sustainable organic tomatoes and cucumbers.
Wong has guided the growing practices at Origin Organic Farms since the first tomato seed was planted in 1997. His belief in — and love for — organics, blended with his passion for sustainability, has helped make tomatoes and cucumbers from Origin Organic Farms among North America’s favorite organic produce items.
A dozen years ago, Wong and his friend, William Cheuk, started a tomato farm in Surrey, B.C. Planting 10 acres of beefsteak tomatoes, the two developed a sustainable way of growing that centered on producing flavorful, robust tomatoes while reducing waste. Compost played a primary role in this growing model.
In 2000, Dr. David Ho, an astute businessman, saw the potential of the business and determined to invest and expand the operations. Over the next four years, the farm outgrew the Surrey location. While the original farm is still in production, Origin Organic Farms is now spread out across 33 acres of small, efficiently-producing properties in Surrey, Delta and Langley, B.C. Several types of tomatoes, as well as long English cucumbers, are grown there.
In 2005, Wong began growing 100% organically. The tomatoes and cucumbers produced on Origin Organic Farms were so unique and rich in flavor, and so highly sought-after, Wong began labeling them as OriginO so consumers could readily identify them in the produce aisle.
Discerning restaurateurs and retailers throughout Vancouver and the Pacific Northwest— and indeed across North America — have discovered the rich flavor and pristine appearance of 100% certified Origin Organics.
Originally from Hong Kong, Wong immigrated to Canada with his family at age 12. They settled in Vancouver, where he and his wife continue to live today. While always a farmer at heart, Wong also holds a Bachelor’s degree in bio-resource engineering and a Master’s degree in agricultural engineering from the University of British Columbia.
