Origin Organic Farms has developed its organic greenhouse system in a totally sustainable manner. “For the past five years, our group has completed numerous researches and trials to identify ideal nutrients, fertilizers, growing media and environment that is most suitable for consistent organic production”, said Dr. Cheuk.
The proprietary growing soil – of which the prime ingredient is compost – has been developed by the research team. While most farms produce compost just for waste management, at Origin Organic Farms, the high quality compost is used as soil media for their organic greenhouse crop. This is the meaning of true sustainability cycle. Old and dead plants are processed to become the soil growing media for new plants.
The Compost we use is generated from our process control composting system. This system is able to provide the perfect condition to speed up and enhance the composting process. The raw material for the compost is from our leaves, stems, and fruit pruning of the greenhouse operation. We are able to recycle our waste for total sustainability. Control of all media is vital to retain the right nitrogen levels which eliminate pathogens, thus preventing plant and soil-related diseases.
Our own proprietary organic fertilizer was developed by our research team. The raw materials of the liquid organic fertilizer are all natural and from an organic waste stream of another industry. Working with our reactors and real-time process controls, we are able to produce the most nutrient-rich and stable organic liquid fertilizer. In order to utilize all the nutrients of the fertilizer, we recycle 100% of our drain. Most importantly, our fertilizer is water soluble at the perfect nutrient level, which guarantees better plant growth and better “Taste”.
In searching for true taste, we have combined traditional farming and growing methods with innovative technology and sound biological controls.
All crops are grown in clean, safe and environmentally friendly conditions that are 100% sustainable. There is no direct application of manures or bio waste to crops, no cross contamination of genetically modified pollen from nearby fields or the possibility of ground water contamination. This has resulted in our crops being odourless, stain-free and packed with nutrients.
Origin Organic Farms was the first greenhouse in British Columbia to receive the Environmental Farming Planning (EFP) Certificate in recognition for its environmental pursuit of clean, safe and healthy farming.
